spoon

coffee dripping faster than
the floor boards creaking up the stairs
and the spoon
scrapes the bowl in silence
and it’s 7:30 due today
and someone somewhere up the stairs
and it’s time

are you honest
are you patient with your lies
are you blind when it’s safe to close your eyes
are you kind when it’s easier to move
are you brave when you have nothing to loose

i’m not free when i’ve got nothing to loose
you’re not free when in fear you do what you choose

two eyes to tired to try to see
and the truth was right in front of me
and the words
cut into the silence
and a voice much like a lullaby
tries to open up his eyes but he turns
the page like everyone

are you honest
are you patient with your lies
are you blind when it’s safe to close your eyes
are you kind when it’s easier to move
are you brave when you have nothing to loose

i’m not free when i’ve got nothing to loose
you’re not free when in fear you do what you choose
and we’re not free when we’ve got nothing to loose
you’re not free when in fear you do what you choose
