dontpanic

Fans of dont panic,

It is our great pleasure to introduce “every day”, available for consumption at http://cdbaby.com/cd/dontpanic2.
This marks the initial “digital” release of the album. Purchasing the album from this site will give you the mp3 download.

On September 25th, we will be hosting the CD Release Party at The Light Horse in Alexandria , Va. This will be your first opportunity to purchase the “hard copy” CD, as well as other dont panic merchandise.

If chance would have that you can’t make the show on the 25th, fear not. Starting on the same date you can purchase the album on cdbaby and they will ship it right to your doorstep.

Once again, a hardy thank you to all the support throughout the process. We hope you enjoy the album and look forward to seeing you at the shows!

Sincerely Yours,

dp

SIREN VOICES

At one point we
had the song pretty much ironed out but we hadn’t played it with drums yet. As we set up for practice, there was a tension in the air. We had talked during the day about the economy, elections, corruption… Can’t remember exactly, but it took us straight to the general place where the song was written from.  Then Joel (drummer) comes in asking, “Hey, you want to really rock this one out?” The song didn’t mind and we certainly didn’t resist.  Almost immediately the arrangement took shape; guitar tones, segues, tom drops, bass slides. There were lamps and vases sliding off shelves as we stomped the song into what it is now.  If you watch the band play this song live you might notice that we give our volume knobs a little bump and we still stomp a little harder.

SKY SCRAPERS

One of the interesting things about Skyscrapers is that it actually started off as a ballad. Lukasz initially came to practice with the first verse and the chorus and we played around a bit. It was starting to shape nicely. But about the third time we went to rehearse Lukasz brought the song up a whole step and turned it into a much faster song, as you hear it now. Although the band had grown fond of the original direction, the new arrangement caught on quickly.

Most of the songs on the album were written as a commentary to things seen and experienced in a modern city. Skyscrapers is the most forthright song in describing the physicality of the city, which makes it a great “table setter”. This is one of the reasons you hear it first on the album. There is also an impetuous quality to it that we felt was ideal to open up the rest of the songs.

CD Babyamazon.com

We really enjoyed performing at this event, a very well coordinated event in honor of preserving the earth and bringing together a lot of people that work in the same building but never get to see each other. This is one of several video that will be going up on dont panic's youtube channel so please stay tuned and check back!

Thanks HDR for having us! Congratulations to all the winners. Maybe next year the band will be in line for an award (hint: start thinking of a category we could fit into).

Best,

Greetings,

As we’re waiting for the producer to wrap things up with the album, its left me with some free time to catch up on some long lost and hidden emails, download some new music, and watch a few movies.

In particular I watched the rockumentary “It Might Get Loud”. A documentary on the electric guitar as seen through the eyes of 3 of the biggest innovators in rock music; Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White.

If you are a fan of music I would recommend watching this film. Each of these players have an interesting take on the guitar, music, and the story that it has played out in their lives.

My favorite part from the movie comes from the junior of the bunch, Jack White, as he talks about the development of technology. We tend to get so caught up in the quest for more technology, that we lose focus on the real struggle. As he put it, some musicians/engineers “spend a week trying to get the best gated reverb”. When the most important element is all in the substance in the song.

To be honest, I never thought too much of the White Stripes and haven’t heard enough of the Raconteurs to have an opinion. But I’m sure gonna take a listen.
